Basic notions on how the celestial sphere works; astronomy workshop; recognition of stars and constellations; and observation of celestial objects.
While waiting for nightfall, we will begin the activity with a visit to Bodegas Aragonesas, a winery affiliated with the spanish Wine Route La Garnacha (D.O. Campo de Borja). After learning about the qualities of Campo de Borja wines and their long winemaking tradition, we will head to the designated location for stargazing:
Positional Astronomy: Basic notions on how the celestial sphere works, locating the North Star in the sky, and using a planisphere or star map.
Astronomy Workshop – “The Zodiac and the Ecliptic”.
Recognition of Stars and Constellations: Using a laser pointer, we will identify stars and constellations while enjoying stories from classical mythology based on these asterisms. This is a true storytelling experience, where greek and roman myths will help us learn to recognize constellations. We will also look for Dionysus and Bacchus, the gods of wine, whom we will have already heard about at the winery.
Observation of Celestial Objects: Using various telescopes, including a 150mm refractor, a 200mm reflector, and long-range binoculars.
